About this activity

Breakwater Country Park is in Anglesey's countryside and is next to the town and port of Holyhead. It was first opened in 1990 and is on the site of an old quarry which was built between 1846 and 1847, so it has a lot of history too!

The park captures both history, scenic beauty, wildlife and activities for a great family day out and has so much to offer.

They have regular exhibitions, mainly about the wildlife and industrial heritage, and they're located in the information centre which interactive displays too.

Fancy a spot of fishing? Head to Llyn Llwynog where you can fish, watch the model boats and do a spot of wildlife watching whilst you're at it!

You can explore the rocky coast too and enjoy the stunning coastal scenery around you. Don't forget to keep your eye peeled for chough and peregrine falcones as they swoop around the old quarries!

There's also lots of walks too for abilities including access to Holyhead Mountain and South Stack. South Stack is a lighthouse which acts as a waymark for traffic and light for vessels crossing the Irish Sea! Experience a tour and head down the 400 steps on to the island with stunning views.

Onsite you'll find a kiosk which has lots of snacks and refreshments, as well as wildlife gifts too! All money goes directly towards protecting wildlife throughout North Wales. There's also the old warden's house which has been converted into a place for a stop to rest and enjoy some food too!
