Home Front Experience allows you to experience the sights, sounds and more of civilian life during the second world war. It's a personal collection of home front related memorabilia collected over the last forty years.
The building itself dates back to the 19th century and was once used as a garage. During the second world war it was requisitioned by the Auxiliary Fire Service and was then use used as a base for volunteers. The building was then turned back into a garage after the war, but in 1999 it was transformed to house this unique collection.
You'll be able to take a trip down memory lane to life in 1940's Britain. Take a self-guided tour and explore six years of war on the home front. Captured through shops, room displays and objects, you'll imagine what life was like back then.
Discover how the war was on the kitchen front, see gas masks, ration books, dig for victory and much more as it's brought back to life.
The museum is a great place to visit to uncover what life was like during the second world war and gives children of all ages the chance to explore the objects that brings it to life. Take your time looking at the objects, ask questions and uncover all of the history.
