Hertford Museum cares for over 100,000 objects and collections include fine art, natural history, geology, phtos and much more! Did you know they even hold the largest collection of toothbrushes in the world?!
The museum collects and preserves the heritage of Hertford and over 30 villages in East Hertfordshire too, and around 5% of their collections are on display at any one time. One of the exhibitions is The Early Days which has Natural History and Ethnography on display. It shares the wonders of the natural world and has objects on display from around the world. Some of the items include the scrimshaw, Egyptian sculpture and a Greek lekythos.
Another permanent display is The History of Hertford. It's on the first floor and tells the story of Hertford and the surrounding villages including childhood, health, wellbeing, sports and more. There's also a section that is dedicated to famous peeople and another to Hertford at War which included Hertfordshire Regiment collections.
They have rolling programmes of engaging exhibitions throughout the year too, which provides an opportunity to learn more about the items in their collection. So make sure to check out the website before you visit so you know what's on!
The museum also offers guided tours and workshops for schools so they can experience history first hand. They offer a range of themes and enaging workshops which include history, science and geography topics that are linked to the National Curriculum.
They run lots of family activities throughout the school holidays which include craft workshops that will help the little ones unleash their creativity!
