The Secret Island-Royal Gunpowder Mills is an exciting visitor attraction with plenty for all the family to see and do. You can join an insightful walking tour to explore some of the restricted access areas with lots to discover!
On your visit you can take a 25 minute tractor trailed guided tour to some of the out of bounds part of the site. You'll see the remains of buildings used in the production of explosives and the iconic Press House with waterwheel and press where one of the most dangerous processes took place!
There's also plenty of exhibitons too! The main exhibition allows you to travel back through time and discover 300 years of explosive and secret history through film and interactive displays. There's also the rocket vault which holds 19th century gunpowder rockets and a photography exhibition celebrating the women who worked in the war industries.
Don't forget to pay a visit to the armoury and discover how firearms changed over the centuries. Take a ride on the gunpowder railway which is around 1km along the site and there's a mini railway too which runs the length of long walk.
They also hold many seasonal events so make sure to check the website before you visit!
