Shaw's Corner was the country home of playwright Bernard Shaw for 44 years and now is your chance to visit it! It's an Edwardian country home with collections and a stunning garden to explore!
You'll be able to walk from room to room, enjoying the beautiful interiors and explore more about the past. Entry to the house is by guided experience only so you will need to book in advance! You'll visit Shaw's study and drawing room and the volunteers will tell you all about the stories of the objects he left behind. The tour will last around 45 minutes and provides a great insight into his life and work.
There are thousands of books in the collection and many are on display around the house, as well as his most recognisable suits and outerwear, including his famous tweed cape.
The garden at the site stretches to 3.5 acres and is in a conservation area. The gardens have been kept just like Shaw once liked them, and there's lots of photos inside the house that show him in the garden! The garden has a wildflower meadows which changes with the season, along with an orchard with apple and pear trees. It's a great place to sit and relax and watch the wildlife all around.
If you make your way to the bottom of the garden, you'll find Shaw's writing hut tucked away! It was mounted on a revolving mechanism so that he could follow the sun throughout the day. Once your day is finished, head to the bookshop which is filled with second-hand books to buy and take home with you.
