The Fitzwilliam Museum is one of the most impressive museums in the UK, and is home to a world-renowned collection of over half a million beautiful works of art, masterpiece paintings, antiques, and historical artefacts.

It's a place where kids can be introduced to art, culture, history and artifacts from antiquity right through to present day. And, it's free admission! Now there is no excuse!

The range of items within the Fitzwilliam Museum is astounding, so make sure you take your time and really explore the collections just oozing historic and priceless objects!

Kids can be introduced to the culture and traditions of ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome. They can see how the arts have changed over the centuries!

The Fitzwilliam Museum also has one of the finest collections of paintings, prints and drawings in the UK, as well as a significant collections of Asian art, stunning medieval illuminated manuscripts, and if that wasn't all, you can discover an outstanding collections of applied arts, pottery, porcelain and medieval coins!

They recommend public transport as the best method to visit the Museum, and as Cambridge is renowned as a bicycle friendly city this method of transport is ideal and they have bicycle parking on site.

The Fitzwilliam Museum FAQ’s

The cashless Courtyard Kitchen is where you can pick up a delicious range of salads, sandwiches, cakes and pastries. The menu is focussed on local, seasonal produce

Keep and eye out for the many events they host, including talks, family-orientated events, and ones geared towards kids!

There is a cashless Gift Shop where you can pick up Fitzwilliam Museum themed gifts and souvenirs!

All school groups must be booked through the Learning Department, please see links on Schools Sessions page for details of the sessions available. They are currently limiting visits to one class of 30 students per day

There are plenty of healthy options in the Courtyard Kitchen!

The Fitzwilliam Museum has worked with AccessAble to create an accessibilty guide, which you can find on their website or via the app.

A lift to all floors is located near the Courtyard Entrance, and visitors can use it to access the galleries on the upper floor.

They also have a fleet of wheelchairs available at the Courtyard Entrance for visitors' use.

Even though the museum has free admission, you still need a ticket which you can get online ahead of time or pick up on the day, however keep in mind there may be a queue
