About this activity

Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences has its origins in the early 18th century and there's lots of things to see for the whole family, whatever the weather! Explore The Ice Ages, volcanoes, chalk seas and more through the interactive exhibitions.

At the Ice Ages exhibitions you can discover what Cambridgeshire was like thousands of years ago! Se the emains of a giant deer, mammoths, elephant and lion and much more. Many of the fossils on display were found in the region and they suggest that the area was like the grasslands of Africa today!

The plant Earth exhibition gives us clues about the origins of the Earth. You'll see samples of rocks from the moon and a selection of meterorites and even a piece of the Apollo 15 rocket's head shield too! Find out how the inside of the Earth works and what it's made up of.

At the restless Earth exhibit, you'll learn about why earthquakes and volcanoes happen and you'll see different types of volcanic rock too!

For families, there are plenty of activities to get involved in.

Find all of the museum's dinosaurs, explore the books in the book trolley, complete puzzles and create your own poetry using the magnetic poetry board! There's also a variety of trails too, just pick one up from the front desk and let your adventure begin!
