About this activity
The Imperial War Museum Duxford is oozing history before you even enter the exhibits! The museum's impresive historic site includes a vast range of enormous hangars, filled with gigantic aircraft which are just amazing to see in person, and even a live airfield (which mean yes, they host Air Shows!)
Not only that, you can delve into the exhibits that house a wide collection of personal objects and stories of those who have lived, fought and died in conflict from the WWI right through to present day.
There is so much to see at the Imperial War Museum Duxford, it's worth considering spend at least half a day on site, though many who visit do tend to stay a full day because of the extend of what there is to do and enjoy there.
Another amazing fact about the museum is that when you see historic the aircraft take to the skies from the very airfield where Spitfires first flew.
Kids always love getting up close to gigantic aircraft at what is actual Europe’s largest air museum and uncover these hundreds of personal stories!

IWM Duxford is south of Cambridge at Junction 10 of the M11 motorway, less than 50 miles from Central London and approximately 40 minutes from the M25 (Junction 27).
IWM Duxford is easily accessible from the A1, A14, M1 and the North, via the M11.
There is free parking for customers of IWM Duxford (with the exception of special event days).

There are a few places to choose from! The Armoury Cafe is located next to the visitor centre is great for snacks and refreshments.
The American Café is great for take away snacks.
Then, you also have The Workshop restaurant great for delicious lunches!

School groups can choose to take part in a variety of learning sessions, aimed at KS2-4 and led by one of our expert educators. Or, groups can opt to explore the museum on a free self-guided visit.
