Saffron Walden Museum is a great local museum that has been entertaining visitors since it opened in 1835. It's set in an eclosed grass meadow and is very family-friendly with lots to see and do!
For families, there are lots of activities, events and interactive sessions for families and children. The museum has a selection of activity trails and explorer backpacks that you can take around with you on the museum. There's also a map that you can download before you visit so you can find your way around.
In the furniture gallery you can build a timber framed tudor house and try your hand at laying model bricks in Tudor building styles. The sand pit in the Great Hall is also filled with treasures to hunt out, just use the brushes and see what you can find!
In the geology gallery you can use the mega magnifiers to help you get a close up view of the fossils and rocks and the discovery centre is filled with activities to explore! Say hello to the family of stick insects and use the microscope to look closer at some of the natural history specimens.
There's also lots going on all year round during the holidays so make sure you check out the website before you visit so you know what's happening.
