Kids can learn all about people and events that shaped the city and county into what it is today, and learn how life would have been for those who lived in the area over the centuries.
It's at the Museum of Cambridge where you can explore the collection of nearly 40,000 objects all telling the story of the city of Cambridge and Cambridgeshire.
Kids can see everyday items that would have been used in daily life, from your grandmother’s sewing machine, to witch bottles (wondering what these are? Find out at the museum!), and hear fantastic stories of giants and mole people. Every object really does have something to say!

The Museum of Cambridge LOVE history, and it's shows! They love the way objects can help us to reflect on our histories, so a visit here will really give kids an amazing learning experience.
The stories of these objects that they share can still have meaning today, and a visit allows you to get closer to understanding those stories and make connections between the past and the present by collecting peoples’ stories today.

They are located on Castle Hill, at the corner of Castle Street and Northampton Street, right beside Kettle’s Yard and only a 15 minute walk from King’s College.
There is bike parking on Bridge Street or on Northampton Street, and as there is no car parking they encourage you to use the Madingley Road Park & Ride service.

Make sure you stop by the shop! Just like their museum, the items in the shop are themed around Cambridge and Cambridgeshire. They stock locally-made gifts and jewellery as well as a wide range of toys, books and souvenirs!

They currently offer a Loan Box programme which enables students and teachers to get hands on with historic objects and topics in the comfort of the classroom, for £10 a week usually from Friday-Thursday with pick up available from the museum

The Museum of Cambridge does not have a wheelchair accessible building. Visitors with limited mobility can explore the shop, which is accessible via a street level entrance. There is also a wheelchair accessible toilet on the ground floor, with a rail.
All visitors should be aware that the building is very old. Though full of character, it also has uneven floorboards, narrow staircases, and crooked doorways. There is a lift in the building if required.
Visitors with additional needs are welcome to bring a supporter or carer who will be admitted to the Museum free of charge.
