About this activity

The Farmland Museum and Denny Abbey has a lot of interactive displays suitable for young children and you'll learn all about medieval farming as it brings the past to life!

You'll find stories of countesses and fighting monks, craftsmen and farmer all within the ancient ruins. There's a 17th century stone barn which houses different aspects of farming such as root crops and fruit growing and Denny Abbey where you can discover the past and who occupied the building at different times. 

The museum tells the 850 year story of farming and life in the Cambridgeshire Fens and there's plenty of hands-on and interactive exhibits. The farmworkers cottages is an 1860s cottage which share the story of a fictional family living and working on a farm, discover what people did before television! 

There's a huge collection of equipment and machinery at the museum too as well as plenty of open air spaces which is surrounded by fields and cows, see what you can spot!

You can discover an introduction to village life in the renovated pigsheds with displays and exhibits. Displays include the dairy, blacksmith, fenmans hut and basketmaker workshop. On event days you may even be able to try some of the crafts too! 

For children there is a play area complete with a sit on tractor, climbing frames and slides! It's a great place to sit and relax and watch the children burn off some energy.

The Farmland Museum and Denny Abbey is on the A10 between Cambridge and Ely. Turn right before Donarbon Waste Management Park (if coming from Cambridge). Turn left after roundabout at Donarbon Waste Management Park (if coming from Ely).

The Farmland Museum and Denny Abbey provides a fascinating and relaxing venue for an educational class visit.

Wheelchair access is possible throughout most of the museum, but visitors should be aware that the main access routes around the museum are along gravel paths and grass. Access to Denny Abbey and Walnut Tree Cottage is restricted.
