One of the world's leading botanic gardens, the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh offers over 350 years of history across 70 acres of stunning landscaped gardens! Not only can you learn all about the plants as you stroll through these beautiful grounds, but you can also enjoy a stunning view of Edinburgh's skyline too!

During your time at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh the whole family can experience a wonderous extravaganza of plants from all around the world, as well as learn about the Garden's rich and diverse Living Collection!

Kids can even learn all about a history that dates back to the 17th century!

The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh features a number of themed gardens include a Rock Garden, Alpine Houses, and even a Woodland Garden. You can marvel at a pond, visit the Arboretum or see all the trees in the impressive tree collection!

You'll also find the Chinese Hillside, a beautiful Rhododendron Collection and even Scottish Native Plants Collection in the Heath Garden!

What's great about a visit to nature is that kids will leave with a deeper understanding and appreciation of why plants are so important to our world! Nature really is wonderful!

The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh has two entrances: the West Gate on Arboretum Place (EH3 5NZ) and the East Gate on Inverleith Row (EH3 5LP).

There is metered on-street parking available near the Garden’s West Gate (John Hope Gateway) on Arboretum Place

Via bus, the West Gate (John Hope Gateway visitor centre) on Arboretum Place is served by Lothian Buses 29, 42 and 24 via Stockbridge

Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh FAQ’s

Engaging Gardens is RBGE’s community engagement programme and is supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery so they can connect health and wellbeing, environmental sustainability, people and plants through a range of activities.

There are a number of places you can grab something to eat! From the casual Gateway Cafe, to the Terrace and then East Gate Coffee Bar, you'll find delicious menu items for all tastes!

Check out the tours they offer, from daily guided walks, to Afternoon Tea tours, and themed walks! They can add that extra element to your day out.

Make a stop at the Botanics Shop in the John Hope Gateway visitor centre where you can find botanically inspired gifts, books and sustainable products, as well as a fabulous selection of house plants and pots!

A lot of the menu items are seasonal and even foraged, so you will have a number of healthy options to choose from, including vegetarian options too!

Wheelchairs are available for free hire, and you'll also find accessible bathrooms. Assistance animals are welcome, and hearing loops are available too!
