Located within the Head Office of the historic Bank of Scotland in Edinburgh, the Museum on the Mound is where families can experience a fresh look at the world of money, and uncover its history, its importance, and how it plays within a world of art, technology, design, trade, security and more!

Within the exhibits at the Museum on the Mound kids can see a million pounds (we're not kidding!) and even look at Scotland's oldest banknote! They can learn to crack open a safe, explore the changing face of the city, build a model home, and see money's role within our lives!

Each of the exhibits focus on a fascinating theme so you really can immerse yourself in the story the museum it telling.

Did you know that whilst today, Lloyds Bank and Bank of Scotland are two of the best-known banks on the high street, their origins, are very different…

We mentioned that the Museum on the Mound is housed in the magnificent head office of the Bank of Scotland. Kids can learn more about the fascinating history of the beautiful building which is worth a visit in itself!

Within the galleries there are interactive maps to see how Edinburgh has grown and evolved since the 1600s, and you can even discover how the Mound got its name! 

From learning how money has evolved over the past 4,000 years, to actually seeing £1 million pounds with your own eyes, it's all there at the Museum on the Mound!

Baby changing facilities are available in the bathrooms

It's worth allowing an hour for your visit although you of course can stay longer if you like!

There is a Museum shop! Here you can pick up unique gifts and stationery including limited edition banknotes and uncirculated banknotes, Royal Mint coin sets, souvenirs made from recycled banknotes and more!

Students can engage in hands-on activities based around the museum's extensive collection of original artefacts. These sessions are led by Museum staff and are free of charge! They also offer digital workshops too.

Baby changing facilities are available in the bathrooms

The museum is fully accessible to wheelchair users. They do have accessible bathrooms and they offer free parking for disabled badge holders in nearby Market Street and St Giles Street
