Rayleigh Mount is run by the National Trust and was once the site of a medeval castle and now a green oasis for wildlife! It's rich i history and is the perfect opportunity to get sweeping views across the Crouch Valley.
The castle was the only one from Essex that was mentioned in the Doomsday Book of 1086 and in its 300 year history, the castle was never attacked.
The area is now a haven for urban wildlife in the heart of Rayleigh town centre. They also run dramatic open-air theatre production during the Summer too!
One of which is the famous Trinity Fair. You'll find guided walks on the Mount and museums and lots of opportunity to ask questions and uncover some history! Make sure to check the website before you visit so you know what events are on!
You can also make a whole day of it by visiting the sensory garden and windmill next door which is home to some fascinating historical exhibitions.
