About this activity

The Southend Pier Museum brings to life the fascinating past of the longest pleasure pier in the world. You'll see over 130 years of history right at the museums some unseen recovered items from the pier fires.

The museum is located in the Old Pier Workshops, right underneath the train station at the shore end. Just head into the pier reception and walk to the right of the railway entrance!

The museums brings back fond memories for all older visitors and gives a new experience for young generations.

In the museum you'll see an original 1890 toastrack tram, three original train carriages from 1949, a working signal box, picture displays, penny slot machines and lots more. It's a great place to visit if you're new to the area or live here and want to find out more about the history of the pier itself.

On site you'll find a souvenir shop and a visitors book, so don't forget to leave some well wishes for the visitors after you!

The museum is a great place to visit if the weather takes a turn for the worst as you'll be safe and dry inside the museum.
