About this activity

Cromwell Museum interprets Cromwell's life and legacy through portraits, documents and objects. You'll explore the life and times of the soldier for an educational day out. 

The museum has plenty of objects to inspire you. You'll see his hat which was worn by him when dismissing the Rump Parliament, and there's even a replica for you to try on too. 

There are plenty of portraits and paintings of Cromwell and his family, plus lots of other important characters from the period too. There's arms and armour, personal items and much more! There's also family trails and activities that brings history to life for young visitors. 

There's a variety of temporary exhibitions, events, talks and tours throughout the year, so whenever you visit, there will be something new. They also have craft workshops too that will unleash your creative side!

During the school holidays there's lots of free family activities. Learn about how he cancelled Christmas and was he really the first person in Britain to try pineapple?!

The Museum has a small but well stocked gift counter, with a selection of books, souvenirs and gift ideas about or inspired by Cromwell, the 17th century and the Museum’s collections.

Lots of educational workshops both in-person and virtually for all school ages

The Museum is accessible to wheelchairs, buggies, prams, but not to large mobility scooters. The interior of the Museum is flat, without steps, and seating is available for visitor use.
