National Mining Museum Scotland is housed in the restored Lady Victoria Colliery, the only surviving Victorian colliery in Europe. The museum tells the story of coal and mining across two floors of exhibitions, tours and more as you retrace the foosteps of thousands of miners.
You'll be able to head on a tour of the pithead which has been recreated underground and is given by an ex-miner guide giving you the real experience and atmosphere of a working pit! You can also explore through an audio tour at your own pace.
Make sure you allow around three hours for your visit!
Find out what life was like at home and at work for the miners and families from the 19th century. The exhibition has emotive tales from when women and children were banned from working underground.
Discover a victorian home where children can dress up too! There's also many temporary exhibitions too so make sure you check out the website before you visit so you know what's on.
They have lots of seasonal activities too like Easter egg hunts, crafts and quizzes for the whole family to get involved in.
There are plenty of activities for the whole family to get involved in too. There a cat spotter trail where you'll find the hidden cats around the museum, spotter sheets, maths for miners, an outdoor playpark and much more! There's lots to keep all ages entertained.
