About this activity

Dales Countryside Museum tells the story of the people and landscape of the Yorkshire Dales past and present, all of whom have lived and worked in the area and have shaped the landscape for thousands of years. 

The museum has been designed to be fun for families, with lots of hands on interactive exhibits that will help you to explore all of the history. There's a range of permanent and temporary exhibitions within the gallery spaces.

In the life gallery you'll discover the elements of the landscape used by people to survive in the dales, including water, stone, wood, metal and much more. You'll see displays of animal bones from the Stone Age hunters too. 

In the spirit gallery you'll find beautiful objects, from the Bronze Age spearhead to the Biking ring too. In the railway carriages gallery you'll find out lots about everyday life in the dales, including the community, social and spirtual life of the people who lived there. 

The museum has a packed events programmes, from guided walks to educational activities in and around the museum. Make sure to check out the website before you visit so you know what's happening when and where! 

The museum is also a great place to visit with your school class too! They provide a range of exciting curriculum related learning opportunities and make the learning experience fun for all!
