About this activity

Skipton Castle is over 900 years old and is one of the most complete and preserved medieval castles in England. Visitors are able to explore every corner of the history rich castle which has stoof a number of wars. 

On your visit you can climb from the depths of the dungeon to the top of the watch tower and imagine what life was like when Skipton Castle provided protection and security from invaders. There are lots of historic finds that are always being discovered, most recently an ancient well! 

You can head on a self-guided route, which takes around about a hour a half around the castle. It's fully roofed with a Tudor courtyard and stout towers, and the watchtower which is the imortant part of the castle's defences. 

Inside there is a Banqueting Hall where the Lord and Lady would have dined and a medieval kitchen, chute which discharged kitchen waster and much more. It's well-preserved which helps you to imagine what life was like years ago.

The Clifford Tearoom at Skipton Castle serves home made soup, cakes and light lunches, teas, coffee and ice creams are available from the shop adjoining the tearoom.

Prints, postcards, pencils, notepads, erasers, icecream, confectionery, Charlie Bears and a well stocked book section.

Please note that there is no wheelchair access to the ancient castle ~ grounds, tearoom & shop accessible over a cobbled surface
