It's where medieval strength has blended with 18th century eccentricity, creating a landscape oozing with secrets, curiosities and absolutely breathtaking views!
Fountains Abbey is one of the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in the entirity of England. Kids can explore vaulted ceilings, discover grand columns and even visit an imposing tower.
Don't miss a visit to the garden at Studley Royal too, as it's one of the best surviving examples of a Georgian water garden in the country. The family can take in the elegant ornamental lakes, as well as canals, beautiful temples and even cascades.
Kids also love seeing the 300 red, sika and fallow deer that call the parkland home. A visit to the deer park will see you also visit St Mary's Church which is one of the finest examples of high Victorian gothic revival architecture in the UK.
During your time at Fountains Abbey, kids can learn of the abbey's humble beginnings when the magnificent abbey was established by devout monks who were seeking a simpler existence.
Today, the atmospheric ruins remaining are a window into a specific way of life which would shape the medieval world.
