About High Force Waterfall

High Force Waterfall is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in England, and it's located at the Forest-in-Teesdale in the heart of the Durham Dales. Discover the force of nature for some amazing photo opportunities!

The waterfall has been plunginto into the gorge for thousands of years and it is surrounded by a stunning landscape, woods, wildlife and rivers. The waterfall has a 21 metre cascade and is amazing to see at night too as it provides lots of stargazing opportunities. 

You'll also find lots more activities to do here too! Take part in the magical waterfall woodland trail and spot wildlife along the way or take a guided tour as you're led by the experts. 

The spot also offers a great opportunity to learn outside of a classroom environment too. 

Enjoy a wander through the woodlands trails to the waterfall and hear the roar of the water as it plunges over the cliff top. There's lots of photo opportunities to sit within the view of th falls and for you to soak up the sights and sounds. 

You can enjoy some delicious food at the hotel too to refuel from your day of adventure!

I’m Hungry! Can I get food at High Force Waterfall?

Visitors are permitted to bring along a picnic to enjoy in the designated picnic areas outside the hotel, where there are plenty of tables with surrounding views of the beautiful countryside. Kiosk, located in the carpark, is open seasonally and offers a range of snacks and drinks.

Teachers corner

School groups and organised tours are very welcome at High Force.

Is High Force Waterfall fully accessible?

High Force Waterfall is accessible. However, the gravel path down to the viewing platform is on a gradual slope so visitors may require support getting there and back
