Staircase House is in the heart of Stockport and is famous for its rare Jacobean cage-newel staircase. You'll be able to delve into the past at the oldest town house and learn more about how our acestors lived from the 15th to the 20th centuries.
The house is home to one of only three surviving Jacobean cage-newel staircases in the country and you'll also delve more into how the house was brought back to life after a devasting fire. Head out on a hand-son historical journey with an audio guide that will recount the full history of the house for you.
You'll be able to smell, touch and listen to the history. Pull back the bedclothes on the bed or try your hand at 17th century quill pen writing! Thre's an array of rooms that are linked by narrow passages too.
The house welcomes school trips too for a unique opportunity for children to be excited and inspired. The sessions are suitable for both key stage 1 and 2 children and can be adapted for any educational needs.
You can choose to spend half a day or full day here, exploring the real and replicate artefacts and understand the past of the historic town house. The trained staff will help bring the past to life in these hands on sessions that will directly reflect the National Curriculum!
