About this activity

Ordsall Hall has a long and fascinating history, and has enjoyed many different uses since it was first mentioned in records all the way back in 1177!

That's a LOT of history!

Today, Ordsall Hall is a welcoming and family friendly historic house that tells the story of the hall's lifetime, including stories of those who called it their home.

There is so much to do and discover for kids and families at Ordsall Hall! Kids can dress up as a Tudor, and even try on some chainmail and feel like a real like knight.

They can uncover foods that would have been cooked in that very spot throughout the 1500s, and the whole family can pretend you are enjoying a feast around the table in the Great Hall!

What's also fascinating is that you can learn all about the Pre-Raphaelite artist who lived at Ordsall Hall, as well as listen to the 450 year old story of the old Radclyffe bed. There are plenty of friendly staff and volunteers to make your visit extra special.

Don't miss a visit to the allotment and herb garden too, and spend some time exploring the sculptures in the gardens!

Ordsall Hall holds a host of events throughout the year too, which are perfect for all ages! You might want to enjoy the quizzes in the school holidays or sit back and watch Shakespeare in the gardens. There are also regular guided tours, as well as concerts, workshops and talks!

So much to see and do, Ordsall Hall is worth a visit!
