Explore 250 years of innovations and ideas that went on to change the world at the Science and Industry Museum! All starting in Manchester, you'll discover the city's heritage, scientific disoveries and you'll get to see science in action at the family-friendly interactive gallery. It's an action packed immersive experience that provides hands-on fun and educational learning. 

You'll find both permnanent displays and temporary displays here at the museum, as well as daily shows and activities for the whole family to get involved in.

Revolution Manchester is a permanent display and you'll discover Manchester's rich industrial innovations and discoveries. You'll meet 'Baby' which is a working replica of the Manchester Small-Scale Experimental Machine and you'll get to see one of the first Rolly-Royce motorcars. 

The Experiment display is where you can really get involved in the action! Play and explore science in action with the interactive gallery and let your senses run wild! Find out how you can shake hands with yourself, see how much strength it takes to lift a car with one hand, build bridges, make music with your body and even make yourself glow in the dark! There's lots of fun to be had for the whole family at this display. 

Did you know that Manchester is built on cotton?! 

Discover the Textiles Gallery which tells the story of the people, places and products that made Manchester the international centre of the world's cotton industry. Follow the story through design, printing and finishing, meet the machines and people and find out more how cotton changed the world! 

You'll find daily shows that tell the story of how science is shaping our lives today, get involved in the textiles demonstrations and don't forget to stop at the curiosity stops where the experts are on hand to unravel some science secrets! 

Make sure you check the website before you visit as there are lots of activities and shows that are free with your entry!

Science and Industry Museum FAQ’s

You'll find a cafe and bistro on site that sells a range of hot and cold drinks, cakes and sandwiches.

We advise you allow at least 90 minutes for your visit.

There's a shop on site that sells a range of toys, games, books, science kits and more!

Groups of all interests and sizes are welcome! There are interactive galleries, schools sessions, special exhibitions and more. You can use the group booking portal to plan your day, access discounts and book your trip. Make sure to sign up to their newsletter so you are kept up to date with the events and activities.

The Science and Industry Museum is committed to being open and accessible for everyone. Accessible toilets and baby changing facilities are located on Levels 0 and 1 of the New Warehouse.
