About this activity

The Greater Manchester Police Museum was founded in 1981 and is funded by Greater Manchester Police. It's purpose is to collect and preserve archive materials and objects that relate to the policing in the area and is a great resouce for community engagement.

You can talk to the staff and volunteers about all aspects of policing, so don't forget to ask them questions. It's a great place to visit if you're looking to get into policing! See some of the collections ranging from cars, war time, police stations and videos in the archives and discover how policing in Manchester has changed over time.

On display you'll find personnel service records for police officers, which include personal memorabilia, manuals and handbookings, records and much more. They offer workshops which are aimed at Jey Stage 1, 2 and Higher Education learners.

For KS2 you'll learn all about the Victorian police form! Learn who formed the police, use the museum's collection to discover how policing has changed over time and you'll be introduced to Robert Peel, you'll them finish the day off exploring policing from 1066 to modern day!

You can also follow in the footsteps of a Victorian criminal, investigating crimes and how they were pubnished in the past. Unover what would have happened in the Victorian police station and what it would have been life to spend the night there!

If you want to book onto a workshop just get in touch with them with your availability! The workshops make for great educational experiences for young people.

The 1879 police station and 1895 court room make the perfect setting for Victorian projects and visits for educational groups. They're run on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays in term time.
