Portland Basin Museum is housed within the restored nineteenth century Ashton Canal Warehouse and is open all year round! It''s an exciting family-friendly museums with something to do for all the family.
The museum combines a lively modern interior, set in a peaceful canal side setting. There's many exhibitions for you to explore too. Step back in time on the 1930s street and marvel at the sights and sounds as they are brought to life through the exhibitions.
Wander through the kitchen and parlour and imagine what life was like years ago and discover the area's industrial heritage and learn what life was like down the mines or on a farm.
You'll get to learn about local crafts, industries and look at historic machines. The little ones will enjoy the educational play area as they try to work out the nuts and bolts!
There's also many walking and cycling routes that start from the museum, so there's plenty more to do on your doorstep! There's also lots of trails and activities for children to get involved with that brings the past to life.
Portland Basin Museum is situated just outside of Manchester, accessible by car, bus and train. There is a free car park with disabled parking spaces.
