About this activity

The Manchester Museum is in the heart of Manchester and is filled with exhibits, collections and incredible stories! There are over 4.5 million objects from human cultures and natural sciences to explore which is makes it one of the UK's largest university museums. 

Once of the collections is of of Egyptian and Sudanese objects, which displays the everyday life and preparations for the afterlife. There's a collection of gilded mummy maks, realistic painted images and much more. You'll also find over 100,000 fossiles including those of Ice Age animals in Europe. The objects are also used for research, teaching and programmes to inspire art and creative projects. 

Spot the skeleton of a sperm whale, a giant Japanese incense burner and one of the rarest frogs in the world, the variety of objects and collections are vast so you'll definitley find something that interests you! Get to know the objects and ask your questions to the staff as they're very knowledgeable and happy to help you. 

You'll also find lots of events and activities for children all year round. Check out the website to see some of the exhibitions and displays are coming up that explore our world, past, present and future. From family trails to art clubs and more, there's so much going on to get the whole family involved in. 

Every Saturday there is a Saturday Club for ages 13-16 which focus on the theme of society and change. From climate change to new technologies, you'll get to explore the forces that are shaping the world today and learn way to have a voice to influence the future. There's alsoworkshops for guides, scouts and rangers too to complete your awards and badges. 

The exhibition hall is where they host tours and shows, encourage big ideas and much more. The Belonging Gallery draws upon multiple cultural perspectives through relationships, objects and places and is filled with national and international artists stories. Plus so much more!

Visit The Manchester Museum Cafe for some tasty snacks. There's also a picnic area if you wanted to bring your own food!

Spend your pocket money or treat yourself to something special in the Museum's shop. It's full of unique, fair-trade gifts and more.

Group visits available for primary schools, secondary and home schooling.

There is a ramped entrance from the pavement outside the museum to the front door. There are lifts to all floors and level access to all public spaces, including galleries, the shop, café, toilets and other facilities.
