Ryedale Folk Museum is nestled in the North York Moors National Park and tells the stories and heritage of the region. It's set over six acres with plenty to discover and explore for the whole family.

There are over 40,000 objexts and more than twenty heritage buildings at the open-air museum. The largest is the thatched Manor House from Harome and has colssal crucks rising to the ceiling.

You can explore at your leisure and you'll see a vintage chemist, village stores and more which give an insight into the shopping experiences years ago.

There is a traditional workshop of the blacksmith, cobbler and tinsmith, a photographic studio, cottage and much more which shows what life was like.

On your visit head to the school room where you can try being a victorian teach or pupil and wear the mortar board or the dunce's hat!

There are plenty of family-friendly games across the site including stick and hoop, coconut shy, giant Merrils and much more. Theres even a converted classic gypsy caravan and a children;s tractor where you can try out your steering skills.

They also have a number of animals to feed too! Including sheep, chickens, pigs and more that tell the story of the family heritage.

The shop sells a large variety of items including souvenirs, books, toys, wildflower seeds, local produce preserves and biscuits, confectionary, cards, jewellery.

School visits and groups welcome.

Ryedale Folk Museum is a large open-air site with historic buildings. Whilst almost all of the site is at ground level access some of our paths are uneven by their nature and there are one or two steps in and out of several buildings.
