The Captain Cook Memorial Museum is in the 17th century house on Whitby harbour where the young James Cook lodged as apprentice when not at sea. The museum tells the story about his inspiring voyages and you'll imagine what life was like for him.
As you walk around the house, you'll walk in the footsteps of Cook himself as you go up the stairs and get views across the harbour.
There is original panelling that is in the upper rooms and the you'll head into the attic with high beams that have been reused from old ships.
You'll enter the museum from the courtyard and it has lots of beautiful colours on display. The museum has a collection of over 700 botanical prints, and the courtyard garden reflects this.
They have lots of workshops and activities for families and people of all ages. From workshops to talks to textiles, there's lots happening so make sure to check out the website before you visit.
For schools, the museum has welcome a number of visits over the years. You'll learn about Cook's background, his career, voyages and much more.

They welcome school visits all year round
Wheelchair users now have access to the ground floor and to the first floor via a specially installed lift.
