Barnwell Country Park is located in the heart of the Nene Valley and close to the historic market town of Oundle. In their fifteen hectares of lakes, riverbank and meadows to explore, there's three way marked waterside trails with plenty of wildlife and picnic spots to see. Follow the nature trail to see what wildlife you spot and to learn about their history! if you stop off at the visitor centre first, you'll find a range of exciting free activity sheets for the children as well as skulls, feely boxes and nature games.
After all that exploring, take a bucket and spade, find 'the beach' on the edge of the Mill Lake and let your creativity loose in the sand! Lots of families build big sand scultpures in their own cool style. In the summer, take advantage of the purpose-built BBQ next to Mill Lake and cook some food while your children play in the sand! If this isn't your cup of tea, bring your own picnic to snack on or take in the wonderful view from the Kingfisher Cafe's lake side deck whilst you enjoy some food and snacks.
Barnwell Country park was voted one of East Midland's 'Local Favourites' parks in Fields in Trust's 2022 awards. This is partly because the adventure playground in the woods is one of the best zip wires around! There's also a toddlers' hobbit garden near the cafe and two wheelchair accessible bird hides so everyone can get invovled in the fun (wheelchair loan is available if you phone beforehand).
Follow the brown and white signs off the A605 Oundle bypass. There is a regular bus service to and from Oundle town centre - the bus stop is approximately a quarter of a mile away from the park.
