About this activity

Bowhill House and Country Estate is located in the Scottish Borders with enchanting forests, winding glens and a country home to explore. There's plenty of family-friendly activities both indoors and outdoors and is a magical place to visit.

Discover the hidden treasures within the house itself with a guided tour. You'll learn about the stories of the Scotts of Buccleuch, the history of the house and the huge art collection in the house. There's a number of exhibitions inside, so make sure to check the website to see what's on before you visit.

The Victorian Kitchen was once the hub of the home and is a space now for educational groups and visitors. You can bring schools or groups here and they'll try their hands at mixing up a storm that provides an insight into the past!

Outdoors, there is a huge adventure playground that the younger ones will love! There are two zip-wires each spanning 30 metres in length. Explore two embankment slides, a 12 metre tunnel slide and an eight metre open slide that's connected with a fun rope bridge.

There's a large wooden fort, bucket swings, tyre swings and even musical instruments where you can start your own band!

The play area is suitable for kids of all ages and there are hours of fun to be had, as well as learning a thing or two about nature whilst you're there.

There's also four way-marked trails that vary in distance and terrains with lots of wildlife to spot!

Enjoy a light lunch or delicious cakes from the Dukes cook, Betty Cook, at the Old Kitchen Café. Located in the Courtyard area, next to the toilets, office, and Victorian Kitchen.

An indoor visit to Bowhill House brings history to life: to enter the Victorian Kitchen, the drawing room or dining room is to step back in time, and the wide acres of Bowhill Estate make the ideal place to learn about nature, wildlife and our relationship with the environment.
