The Manx Aviation and Military Museum is dedicated to the Manx men and women who served on the island in the cause of freedom, and those people who were brought to the shores by wartime service too.
The museum sits on the present day airfield and in the reception you'll be greeted with an introduction the island with a large map showing wartime installations and aircraft crash sites. The exhibitions rooms are filled with models, stories, photos and even recovered aircraft crash parts too.
The museum doesn't just cover military history but Manx civil aviation in general. There are stories of surviving comrades and those people who were left at home too. Discover the artefacts and memories that fill the museum that tell the story of the island's history.
Exhibits on display include the British Aerospace ATP and an Embraer Bandeirante passenger aircraft. There's the cockpit and nose section of a Second World War Bristol Bolingbroke bomber which shows the cramped conditions which the people had to endure.
Head out to the garden too which includes memorials to the Canadian and Polish Servicement who were killed on the island in aircraft accidents. You'll be able to watch aircrafts passing close by whilst sitting in the gardens and picnic areas too.
The Museum is on the A5 road between the airport and Castletown in the south of the island. Approaching from the north via Ballasalla, take the A5 towards Castletown and go straight ahead at both the airport roundabouts with the airport on your left. The entrance to the museum is on the left about 120 metres after the second roundabout, marked by large signs.
