Murlough National Nature Reserve is a stunning dune landscape that's 6,000 years old and has a series of paths, woodlands and heaths to explore. There's also a four mile golden sand beach with coast paths that provide views across Dundrum bay and more.
Here you'll find endless amounts of wildlife. From mammals, birds, insects and more, there's lots to explore!You'll find a mixture of cattle, ponies, rabbits that graze on the land and you may even see the common lizard too!
There are farmland birds and coastal birds and even seals too! In total there are 23 species of butterflies and rare moths have been recorded here too. The rabbit population plays a huge part in maintaing the structure of the area - see how many you can spot!
There are lots of different trails too for all abilities. The Dundrum coastal path is an old stretch of railway and provides views across the bay to watch for coastal wildlife too. It's around 2.5km in total and is a linear trail.
There's also a woodland walk, where you'll meander through hundreds of trees. It's a gentle walk on flat paths and is great to do whatever the weather.
For the kids, there's a natural play area made from wood and wooden sculptures and even a log sofa set where you can relax on!
Belfast is about 25 miles north on the A24. Newry is 25 miles west and Downpatrick is 10 miles to the east, both on the A25.
