About Castle Rushen

Castle Rushen is one of the best preserved medieval castle in the world! It's located in Castletown and is an impressive fortess that was once home to the Kings and Lords of Mann. It was build in 1200AD and has been developed over the years. It's been a fortress, royal residence, mint and even a prison!

The limestone walls were once visible over much of the south of the island, and you can climb the stone spiral staircases to the roof and enjoy the beautiful 360 views of Castletown and beyond.

Inside the castle, there's lots of history to discover! Find Bishop Wilson's cell and the castle guards in their vaulted rooms. You'll also be able to dine with the Kings in the banqueting hall and experience the sights and sounds of a Medieval kitchen.

The castle is complete with accurate decorations and setting for a realistic experience, furnished chambers, gatehouse with an en-suite garerobe and of course tales behind every corner.

Don't forget to visit the gardens that surround the castle too. Enjoy a walk among the colourful flowers for a great view of the castle and even bring a picnic too! Cross the drawbridge, uncover medieval stories and enjoy a walk around the castle walls!
