The wonderfully historic 1620s House and Garden at Donington le Heath (formerly known as Donington le Heath Manor House), is a great opportunity for kids to learn about 17th century life, and to hear the fascinating story of its former owners and residents!
This rare and beautiful historic property is a surviving example of a family home built during the 13th century, before being modernised in 1618.
Over the property's 700 year history, the house has seen many families call it home, but it was the Digby family who lived in the home for over 200 years!
Whilst the Digby family lived in the property for centuries, today YOUR family can visit the beautifully restored period rooms and talk to the volunteers who work there all about the history of the house, as well as the families who made it their home, and about life in the 1620s. (We bet it's pretty different to life today, kids!)
The house is set in stunning 17th century style gardens, as well as an orchard, herb gardens and a small maze!
Don't miss the light refreshments in the tea room, where you can also pick up a range of merchandise too!
Also at 1620s House and Garden the family can also enjoy a lively series of events that use re-enactment, as well as fun crafts, hands-on activities, and specialist demonstrations to interpret the history of the site and life at the time!
