Calke Abbey is a country estate in Derbyshire and tells the story of the framatic decline of a country house estate. The house and stables are little restored, and there's many abandoned areas which portray the 20th century.
You'll discover powerful stories, hidden treasures and beautiful walled gardens too! The estate is set on a 600 acres historic parkland, with ancient oaks and a deer park and secluded ponds too. The more formal gardens are bursting with colours and the stableyard is preserved as they were found too.
For families, you can have wild adventures in the woods, cycle around the estate and play in the natural play area too. If you're looking for more of a quet space there's a garden to relax in, just enter it via the green door. You can grab a book from one of the reading cupboards and take in the fresh air.
Thereare easily accessible walking and cycling routes of varying lengths and lots of places to have a picnic too! There are refreshment kiosks if you forget to bring some snacks with you!
