Moses Gate Country Park is set on 750 acres and is Bolton's largest nature reserve! It's centred on three large lakes and a large area of parkland with miles of scenic walking for all abilities and ages. Head to the park in all weathers for some outdoor fun.
The main and largest lake is reserved for migratory birds and wildlife and there is also a fishing lake and a canoeing lake, so grab your boats and head here when the weather is nice for a relaxing glide along the lake.
The reserve is also home to mill lodges, woodlands and more and is a peaceful site where there is always something to see, no matter the season! You may even spot herons trying to catch brown trout as they leap out of the water, keep your eyes open for kingfishers too!
You'll also see the influence the industrial revolution has here too on the huge blue wall that holds up the canal on the ease side of the river, as well as in the woodland too. The trees in the woodland are just 40-50 years old, and it's a reminder that the coal mines, sewage and landfill wasn't that long ago. You can also spot some red sandstone rock outcrops that are interesting displays from the last ice age too.
The park is set on the Kingfish Trail which is a scenic 14-mile route and is filled with lots to explore! The trail is a chance to engage with nature, learn about the local heritage and have fun witht eh family, no matter what the weather!
