Brightlingsea Open Air Pool was originally built in 1933 and offers open air swimming right on the coast at Brightlingsea from Spring to Autumn. It's a classic 1930s lido that offers a great experience throughout the Summer months.
The lido has a 50 metre unheated outdoor pool, so it may be a little cold if you plan on visiting when it's not too sunny! There's a smaller pool for toddlers and parents too if the little ones wanted to make a splash.
There are changing facilities and sunloungers with an onsite cafe for an ice-cream!
The lido is a living part of Britain's history and was changed from a tidal salt water pool in the 1970s to a chlorinated freshwater pool. During off peak season there is land swimming too and they offer quiet swim days for anyone that needs a calmer environment.
Sessions last for around one to three hours but you can remain poolside and have a spot of lunch in the cafe after your sessions.
They offer special evwents throughout the year too, so make sure to check out the website before you visit so you know what's happening.
There is no dedicated Lido parking. However, there is free roadside parking on Promenade
Way, these can be taken quickly some days. The nearest car parks are the Promenade car
parks, (2 minute walk) or car park at Oyster Tank Road. (5 minute walk) Both are payable
using MIPERMIT app only (no cash options).
