Abergavenny Castle and Museum is home to a vast collection of artefacts, permanent displays and more that all tell a story of the history of the town and the wider area. The museum itself was founded in 1959, and is built on top of a Norman motte within the grounds of the castle.
A visit to the museum will teach you all about the castle grounds and the area from prehistory to the present day with lots to learn. There are five permanent display galleries. the Keep Gallery includes Roman armour, Victorian artefacts and much more.
The Air Raid Shelter is in the basement of the museum and is complete with siren sound effects. The Saddler's Shop showws what one would have looked like and The Welsh Kitchen is in the style of a Victorian kitchen and lots of hands on activities to get involved in.
Finally, Basil Jones Grocery Shop is the most loved display. It includes packaging from the 1930s and you'll be able to visit and imagine what it would have been like shopping in the past!
