If you and your family love the Romans then the National Roman Legion Museum is for you. You'll step back in time and explore life of the mighty Roman Empire! In AD 75, the Romans built a fortress at Caerleon that would guard the region for over 200 years.
Learn all about the Romans formidable force and how life today wouldn't be the same without them! Get up close to the oldest recorded piece of writing in Wales and discover the huge gemstone collections that were found in the Roman Empire. There's also a Bathstone Coffine which has bones of a 2nd century man and there's plenty of Roman pottery too on display!
The reconstructed Barracks Room shows what they would have looked like inside and the living conditions the Roman soldiers faced. During weekends and school holidays children can step back in time and even try on replica armour!
The Roman Garden is a sensory haven! There's fruit, herbs and more that were once used for medcines and food and you'll get a glimpse into how a Roman garden would have looked like. Some plants will be recognisable and other quite stramge so see what you can spot! You might even get some ideas for your own garden too.
The ruins also include the most complete amphitheatre in Britain and the only remains of a Roman Legionary barracks on view, anywhere in Europe!
There's lots of events and activities happening at the museum, so make sure you check out the website before you visit so you know what's happening.
