Hereford Museum and Art Gallery, has been exhibiting artefacts and works since 1874 and is set in a beautiful Victorian gothic building. It's filled with interesting local history interactive elements for the whole family to enjoy.
The exhibits begin in the foyer building and is home to exhibitions of the Hereford Collection and works of local artists, students and craftspeople. Around the walls of the museum you'll see a timeline which was created by wood engraver Harry Brockway. It'll introduce you to the major periods of history and local events, places and museum objects.
The exhibits are all arranged in historical era with which they belong to and to one of four main themes. The themes displayed include Hereforshire as a cultural county, productve county, natural county and a border county.
Some of the exhibits include a hive of lives bees, a two headed calf, two metre long fish and lots of costumes and textiles to enjoy!
The exhibits highlight the local culture and the history of its farming and production and natural environment. You'll be able to see how life has changed in the area over the years. They often run regular events too, so make sure you check out the website to see how the kids can get involved!
