About this activity

Liverpool War Museum is your chance to explore Britain's top secret underground war bunker, hidden under the streets of Liverpool! There are a labrynth of rooms and offices that will transport you back to that time and you'll get learn all about the people who once worked there.

Self-guided tours take around an hour and a half and you'll walk through the hidden rooms and discover stories that protected the tactics of the British Armed Forces plotting to bulwark the Western Approaches. You'll get to see the documents and tools that were used to monitor enemy convoys and one of the only two surviving wartimes phones which had a direct connection to the London War Cabinet.

You'll see where Commanders and personnel worked day and night and how they monitored convoy routes and shipping lines by pin-pointing on a huge map wall! The room has remained exactly how as it was left when the doors closed on 15 August 1945.

They've also recreated a war-torn street scene. Walk the cobbled streets and see the grocer's store full of rations. There are even menu cards to take home to recreate wartime recipes! There's dressing up, sweet shop blacked-out pub and much more that children will love exploring.

One of the newest rooms is the teleprinter room and displays one of the original methods of communication in the bunker. You'll also find the switchboard room where information was received before being forwarded to the teleprinters around the building. There's so much to discover, as well as regular events too! So make sure you check out the website before you visit so you know what's happening when and where.
