Walker Art Gallery has beautiful paintings, sculptures and decorative art right from the 13th century to the present day, just waiting to be explored! It has one of the most important and renowned painting collections in the UK and is a great place to visit with the family, whatever the weather!
The paintin collection includes European Renaissance paintings, Pre-Raphaelite artworks and Impressionist works by the like of Monet and Degas, through to contemporary works by Hockney and Wylie. The sculpture collection features works made between the 18th century and first world war too, so make sure to check them out.
There's a number of temporary exhibitions visiting all year round. From fashion to crafts, to photographic exhibitions. Make sure you visit the website so you know what's happening when and where before you visit.
Every Saturday morning they have story and rhyme time for little artists too. The Big Art exhibition is designed for children ages 0-5 years that can be enjoyed with parents and carers. It has costumes, toys, books, games and objects for children to use their senses and explore. It allows children to learn through creative play and discovery.
Each week there are rotating themes with different craft materials provided, so children can do something new each time they visit. It's from on a drop in basis, so check the website to view the timeslots available.
The Walker is close to the entrance to the Queensway Tunnel. There is pay and display parking outside the gallery on William Brown Street and behind World Museum on Hunter Street. The nearest other car park is at Queen Square.
