International Slavery Museum will allow you to hear the untold stories of enslaved people and learn about historical and contemporary slavery. With vast collections containtaining memrobilia and photos to permanent and temporary exhibitions, it's a great day out for the family to learn more about history.
There are so many collections to discover. The transatlantic slavery collection includes objects which reveal Liverpool's role in the trade and plantation life and the effect it had around the world and on the city of Liverpool.
There is also a collection of racist memorabilia including toys, postcards, books, music and household items and reveals how attitudes of prejudice and fear were shaped and reinforced within society. They also have the collection on modern slavery, the only collection in the UK. It helps to raise awareness and to develop educational programmes about modern slavery too.
The Challenging Histories exhibitions is a permanent display that highlights some powerful artworks that have developed the museum's collections. The other permanent display is a moving journal, filled with personal and historical photographs and are a work of art that is constantly on the move.
For families there is an Igbo family compounds where you'll learn more about the importance of family life in Igbo culture and it's in the Life in West Africa gallery. Discovery how much of the music we listen to has it's roots in African Culture and take a look at the famous faces on the wall as it celebrates inspirational members of the African Disapora.
Follow signposts for the Royal Albert Dock from the motorway and other main routes into the city centre.There are car parks in the nearby Liverpool One complex opposite the entrance to the Royal Albert Dock.

There are three blue badge parking spaces in the car park on the right hand side of the road leading into the Royal Albert Dock, opposite the Dr Martin Luther King Jr Building. Three wheelchairs are available to borrow. Please ask at the information desk when you arrive.
