Heatherslaw Light Railway is open 7 days a week, with trains from Heatherslaw running at 11am hourly until 3pm! Trains return from Etal on the half hour, 11:30 to 3:30, and there's plenty of space for buggies, wheelchairs and dogs. So what are you waiting for? If you fancy experiencing the thrill of riding on the footplate of a steam loco, enjoy a full day on the footplate on one of their two steam locos, either Lady Augusta or Bunty. Your day starts with a safety briefing complete with a tour of Heatherslaw sheds and yard. You will then be introduced to your loco with full instructions on how a steam locomotive works, how to drive, fire and prepare the loco for the day's operation! Once you have learnt about how to clean, polish and raise steam, you and your instructor will attach the loco to the service train (8 coaches), then complete 5 full round trips to Etal!
As if all that fun and responsiblity isn't fun and educational enough, the last task of the day is to ensure the loco is ready for the following day's service.
