Bailiffgate Museum is an award-winning fun day out for all the family! It tells the history of Alnwick and District in colourful, interactive displays. The area has a very rich history because it was a centre of conflict between Scotland and England for many centuries. Two floors house their permanent collection of artefacts, documents, photographs and audio visual content. On the third, Gallery floor has exhibitions which change throughout the year, and events for the whole family, so there's always something new to enjoy!
Theur historic building is in the town’s Castle Quarter, very close to Alnwick Castle. It was previously a church and provides a beautiful setting in which to celebrate 10,000 years of unique heritage! Highlights include a Victorian schoolroom, a nineteenth century printer’s workshop, a miner’s kitchen and artefacts from a ten thousand year old house, the oldest in Northumberland. So what are you waiting for? Go and check it out and and raid their dressing up box: who will you become?
Look out for Finlay, the mischievous museum mouse. His ‘fascinating facts’ will help you learn! And see if you can spot the secret mouse classroom...
As if all this wasn't fun enough, check out our video jukebox for films of Alnwick and district in the past.
