About this activity

You can't visit the beautiful city of Chester without seeing the impressive Chester Cathedral, and whilst it's stunning to walk around and take photos of from the outside, it's definitely worth stepping inside this architectural feat.

Chester Cathedral is just oozing history, and it was founded as a Benedictine Abbey back in 1092. Yes, that's nearly 1000 years ago!

Then, from 1250 the church was gradually rebuilt, and began to develop its Gothic style. This feat took a whopping 275 years to complete, and what you see today is the result!

The beautiful and now incredibly iconic Chester Cathedral loves visitors to enjoy its beauty and learn all about the rich history. The Cathedral itself is free to enter, but if you want to learn more about its story, check out the paid guided tours that they offer.

There are four guided tours that you can choose from - Stained Glass Tour, Medieval Quire Stalls, Gothic Architecture and Cathedral Tour. So, depending on what your family's interest is, there will be something for you!

Definitely one of the best things to see in Chester with the family, so make sure you stop!
