The Butterfly House is part of the Missouri Botanical Garden, and enables kids and families to develop a greater understanding and awareness of the natural world, and the creatures that all it home.
The Butterfly House offers an unparalleled opportunity to learn, explore, and even assist with conservation efforts, as well as offers some great family time too.
The tropical conservatory is the heart of the Butterfly House. Here, nearly 2,000 tropical butterflies live in free flight, in carefully controlled environment houses.
How many butterfly species can you count, kids! You might be able to spot as many as 80 species, and 150 tropical plant species all around you.
If you're lucky, you might even spot a butterfly emerging from a chrysalis. A rare sight!
Make sure you then head to the Native Butterfly Garden, which is an outdoor "backyard" demonstration garden. Plants here were carefully selected to offer habitat for the animals in Faust Park, and of course the caterpillars too.
Kids can continue their learning experience in the Exhibit Hall, where a number of exhibits can be found. They over a host of topics to educate, including habitats and lifecycles of invertebrates, as well as interactive playthings to keep the kids entertained.
Don't miss the super fun "Lopatapillar" either! This 30-foot long caterpillar sculpture sites just among native prairie plants, just near the entrance.
With theater shows too, The Butterfly House is a fun, colorful and nature-filled day out in Missouri.
