Yarmouth Castle is located in the Isle of Wight and it's your chance to explore the fascinating castle, located in the quirky seaside town of Yarmouth. It provdes the best picnic spots on the island too! 

The castle was once one of Henry VIII's most sophisticated fortresses, with breathtaking views across the waters of the Solent. You can step inside to find out how the castle was used in the 16th century and explore the exhibitions that tell the story of the shipwrecks that have occured nearby. 

Learn all about what life was like for the Tudor defenders that worked here and who it played host to years ago. The exhibitions are interactive with a variety of books and objects on display that all helped to take you on a journey through history. 

Finish your visit with spectacular views across the Solent from the gunners platform. It's one of the best picnic spots on the island, so make sure you bring some snacks with you and a camera! 

Run around in the garden too! There's also a play area and a children's room that contains books and tudor games and toys.

Yarmouth Castle FAQ’s

The Castle sits right in the center of Yarmouth town, where an excellent variety of great cafe's and restaurants are available.

The on site shop, situated on the ground floor, sells a selection of Yarmouth Castle souvenirs and English Heritage gifts including toys, books and snacks.

Via cobbled pathway. Ground floor area of the courtyard and shop are accessible for wheelchairs. The Castle kitchen, master gunners quarters and original castle entrance are accessible via several steps. Access to upper areas including the viewing platform is via steep historic steps, restricting wheelchair access to the ground floor.
