About this activity

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard has SO much history to take in, they offer tickets that are valid a whole year so you can keep going back to learn more! In fact, a visit here would see you learning about 800 years of British Naval history, stepping foot on Nelson's flagship Victory and seeing Henry VIII's stunning Mary Rose in all her glory!

Yes, at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard you can actually make your way onto the HMS Victory, which is the Royal Navy's most famous warship. The ship is best known for her role in the infamous Battle of Trafalgar.

As you make your way around the HMS Vistory, you can hear all the history with a hand-held audio guide. Don't miss finding the spot where Nelson himself died!

A highlight of the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is of course the Mary Rose,  the flagship of Henry VIII which served in his fleet for 34 years before sinking in 1545 during the Battle of the Solent. The king himself waswatching from nearby Southsea Castle.

The Mary Rose remained underwater until 1982 when she was raised, and the ship and artefacts are on display in a beautifull set out three level musuem, giving a unique and moving insight into life in Tudor England.

In fact, the Mary Rose is the only ship of her kind on display anywhere in the entire world!

Also at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is the National Museum of the Royal Navy Portsmouth that brings 350 years of history to life, showcasing treasures from the past and examining the common threads which link the sailor of England’s ‘Wooden Walls’ to the professional crews of today.

With a submarine, kids fun, museums, shops, restaurants and so much maritime history, it's no wonder people make multiple visits to really enjoy everything!

All aboard!
